Nobody wants to wake up on the wrong side of the bed, or deal with someone that did. When a morning starts off bad, you’ll have a harder time redeeming your day. The first 10 minutes after you wake up are the most influential time, so it’s important to have a mindful routine and ritual in place to make sure your mind and body are happy from the start. Here are 7 easy habits you should adapt to have healthier mornings.
1. Don’t hit snooze.
Hitting snooze and going back to sleep makes your brain start its sleep cycle again, and when your alarm goes off again, you’ll be in a deeper sleep than you should be; this will actually make you feel much worse.
2. Stretch first thing.
There are many health benefits to stretching, including muscle and joint flexibility, stress relief, and improved circulation.
3. Drink water before your feet hit the floor.
About 60% of your body is made of water, and after sleeping for 7-8 hours without water your body is parched!
4. Eat a healthy breakfast.
Meal prep is the secret to having a healthy, hot breakfast when you don’t have a lot of time. You can easily make a week’s worth of sweet potato hash over the weekend and add some fresh fruit or a couple of eggs each morning!
5. Play music while you’re getting ready.
Music changes moods, be sure it makes you feel good and charges your morning!
6. Turn off your phone notifications.
Checking a notification here and there and next thing we know you are running 15 minutes behind. Or you may see something that causes to stress or be upset, so just turn it on silent.
7. Read something positive.
Reading an encouraging book or article is a practice that makes a big difference. You can even do this as you sip some coffee and eat your breakfast!
